Reuben’s at The One and Only does a superb food and wine pairing featuring The Goose wines

On Wednesday the 27th of July, Paul and I were accompanied by the doyens of Cape hospitality, Isabella Niehaus and Karen Moyle, to a super evening celebration of some of The Western Capes finest wines at The One and Only Hotel on the Waterfront.

To me, The Goose wines, up until last evening, were an unknown brand, silly me!

The range of wines produced by the estate is small but superb. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and their flag ship blend Expression.

The estate is located in what is the coldest wine growing area in the country on the other side of the Outeniqua Mountains, inland from George and is jointly owned by South African golfing legend Retief Goosen and Dr. Werner Roux.

Last evenings soiree was a great success for both Reuben Riffel and The Goose Wines. We were presented with a superb supper consisting of a delicious octopus carpaccio, a divine lamb ravioli and a tender deconstructed beef rib bobotie.  Finished of with a mouth-watering dessert of Chocolate log cheesecake with home made vanilla and chocolate chip ice cream and vanilla macerated strawberries.

Our M.C. for the evening was the ebullient Aubrey Ngcungama and his guest speaker Dr. Werner Roux, who allowed us an insight into the formation and tremendous growth in sales of their product range.

Mention must be made here of Luvo Ntezo the extremely personable and knowledgable sommelier at The One and Only here at The Waterfront, Cape Town.
