Cape Town has so much to offer but sometimes one needs a little escape from the Mother City to somewhere a bit quieter. The drive out to Robertson might be far (approximately two hours) but it is certainly worth it. The route to this cozy small town is one of beauty as you wind your way through the valley with majestic mountains on either side.

We recently visited Robertson, more specifically the Four Cousins Tasting room in Robertson. The decor is exquisite and the Tasting Room is far more than just a wine-tasting room with one predictable offer. Nope, Four Cousins boasts over nine different tasting options. With pairings ranging from R35 to R55 per pairing. Some are more on the traditional side of things, think olives and ciabatta, while there are more whimsical options like the pairing with a rosé wine granita! They also make beer with the charming South African name Boet Beer. As they brew on site you might even be lucky enough to be able to meet the brewmaster himself and learn about this incredible art.

If you are feeling peckish after sampling the extensive pairings then simply walk over to the @FourCousins restaurant which is divided into two parts; a more formal dining area and a kid-friendly side with the wood-fired pizza oven in sight.

Both offer the same menu which is certain to have something for everyone. We were all pleased that we were able to spot a favourite and it seemed that everyone at our large table had something different. From delicious steaks, a long list of pizzas, several options for vegetarians and more. The buttered gnocchi with truffle oil, shiitake mushrooms and rocket was particularly exceptional. We all devoured our meals before anyone could even take a snap! Even though we were all sufficiently full once we’d eyed the dessert menu we knew we had to make space.

The decadent desserts are creative twists on old favourites. The Sticky Toffee Pudding served with crème anglaise and a toffee shard was a particular crowd-pleaser.
