Cape Town: The Cape Quarter (1) and (2)

It is now approaching thirteen years since The Cape Quarter (1) opened its gates. Being previously a factory site in the heart of an area called De Waterkant (pronounced as de vater kant), in Green Point.

The area very soon became a popular place to be both for locals and visitors. In fact, it was the first place I visited when came to Cape Town on holiday some 12 years ago. I spent a very long afternoon sitting on the piazza at a wine bar called The Nose, sampling some of the fabulous South African wines and local charcuterie and cheeses.

If my memory serves me well, I think I had to take a taxi home! Sadly, The Nose is no longer trading, these two things are not related (I don’t think?)

The Cape Quarter (1) is also home to various interior design studios, craft shops, dental and cosmetic surgery practices. Also a soon to be opened restaurant La Cuccina that promises to be as good, if not better than its sister restaurant in Hout Bay. The Lindt chocolate studio is a great way to spend a couple of hours making chocolate products as well as eating them!

Approximately six years ago now The Cape Quarter (2) opened its doors. Housing an excellent supermarket (Spar) as well as a bottle store for your wines and beers (off-licence if you’re from U.K.).  There is also a number of excellent places to eat and drink as well as great coffee shops. Look out for vida e caffè, *Yumcious bistro, Bootlegger Coffee Company, a wonderful health food restaurant: Food Fitness Factory and Cold Press for fresh juices etc.

The Cape Quarter (2) also houses a fabulous florist area (Palette de Fleurs) as well as numerous retail outlets for jewellery, clothes and outdoor wear, if you fancy spending time in the great outdoors. Bearing in mind that there are some truly beautiful areas quite literally on your doorstep it would be rude not to, trust me.

* Yumcious is owned and managed by local Chef and T.V. celebrity, Jenny Morris (The Giggling Gourmet). The food is divine.

Car and scooter hire is available in this area as well as a Harley Davison agency. The World (or the Western Cape) is quite literally your oyster.

Welcome to Cape Town

Bon Voyage dear traveler
